I was thinking too, that you meant "Holy Grail" in general. I was going to say "Castle Anthrax"

After my acquisition of Panzer Dragoon Saga, I have none save for finding a copy of Make Room! Make Room! or a copy of Seduction of the Innocent with a complete bibliography.

Final Fantasy Tactics or Chrono Trigger, can't make up my mind.

But if you mean REALLY old games, I'd go for Mario. The original one.
Ok, I've just about had my FILL of riddle asking, quest assigning, insult throwing, pun hurling, hostage taking, iron mongering, smart arsed fools, freaks, and felons that continually test my will, mettle, strength, intelligence, and most of all, patience! If you've got a straight answer ANYWHERE in that bent little head of yours, I want to hear it pretty damn quick or I'm going to take a large blunt object roughly the size of Elminster AND his hat, and stuff it lengthwise into a crevice of your being so seldom seen that even the denizens of the nine hells themselves wouldn't touch it with a twenty-foot rusty halberd! My copy of Super Ninja Boy. It's the first RPG that I completed, and I love the game to death.

Super Mario World is the pinnacle of console gaming. Half-Life for the PC, although a couple upcoming releases could change that.

It was Sonic CD up until recently. Not any more :-D With 223 games to my name, it's tough to pick individuals, but... Panzer Ddragoon Saga, Shining Forces 1-3 and CD, Baku Baku Animal- most of these seem to be for the Saturn, curiously enough. I must play that console more.

Oh, and a BBC Micro with a copy of Granny's Garden. :-D Timeless.

The original Ravenloft, I'll probably never find it. I think it's abandonware now, so er... anyone got it?

You have nearly as many games as me. I have exactly 200 until you add in the N64, Sega CD and Saturn games I have, but I can't add those in just yet. It's probably about 245 or so. And none of them are copied or multi-cartridges. 8)

DOOM...is and always will be my favorite. Enough said. With DOOM 3 out I now relive my joys in a whole new sense of PC splendor.

Remember ladies and gents...it's all in the eye of the beholder. I like FPSs more than any other game, so DOOM is my Holy Grail of games. Such violence, such firepower, such...revolutionary genius of gaming.

Shinobi. It's the only game that I've had to use every ounce of everything in my being to beat on it's hardest mode.

And the protagonist has the most badass scarf ever, EVER:

I remember Diddy Kong, but I want Doom. Or SOM. What? I never got to beat it.
    An Unkindness of ravens.

I don't know about all console gaming, but it's definitely the pinnacle of action games, with Super Metroid not far behind. My pick would be Final Fantasy III.
While this America settles in the mould of its vulgarity, heavily thickening
    to empire,
And protest, only a bubble in the molten mass, pops and sighs out, and the
    mass hardens,
I sadly smiling remember that the flower fades to make fruit, the fruit rots
    to make earth.
    Out of the mother; and through the spring exultances, ripeness and decadence;
    and home to the mother.

You making haste, haste on decay: not blameworthy; life is good, be it
    stubbornly long or suddenly
A mortal splendor: meteors are not needed less than mountains:
    shine, perishing republic.
But for my children, I would have them keep their distance from the
    thickening center; corruption
Never has been compulsory, when the cities lie at the monster's feet there
    are left the mountains.

And boys, be in nothing so moderate as in love of man, a clever servant,
    insufferable master.
There is the trap that catches noblest spirits, that caught -- they say --
God, when he walked on earth.

SUPER MARIO RPG was THE first RPG I ever played; I've been hooked since. Despite having played over 50 RPGs in the last seven years, SMRPG still compares favorably. I REALLY would like to replay it... but it was stolen from me (along with my Super Nes) by my cousin's ex-girlfriend years ago. *Sob*

As for RPGs I've never played but would love to, everything I hear about EARTHBOUND makes me think I would enjoy it too.

You should really grab yourself a good SNES emulator, Wil. Nowadays, it's pretty much the only way to get a taste of the classic 16-bit RPGs. The people who actually have them are either never selling them or selling them for stupidly high prices.

On that note, mine is my copy of Chrono Trigger for the SNES. I wouldn't trade it for anything.
