I know Arnold has some knowledge about politics. But do you guys think he's able to govern a state? He never governed anything, and he's running for something really big. (this is not to say he could not be a good governor)

Well, Arnold is a lot smarter than people give him credit. But I have to agree with you Ren, he's never governed anything, but I honestly believe if he got elected, he could get the job done.
BTW, did you know he's an art collector? I found that out reading his filmography on the Terminator 2 Special Edition DVD

I heard he was going to run this morning on the news.

Interesting tidbit: Arnold is running for governor but Jerry Springer isn't .

We let an actor be governor once before...

    *shudders*

The way I figure it, as an actor, he's already experienced in deceiving and misleading the public. Which is all you really need to know how to do...

    EDIT:

Thursday, former U.S. Rep. Michael Huffington -- Arianna Huffington's former husband -- released a statement saying he would not run, and he endorsed Schwarzenegger, calling him "a charismatic leader."
    Yes, and we all know electing an Austrian immigrant because he's "a charismatic leader" could NEVER possibly lead to any problems... :too bad;

Well, he was... So maybe Arnold will be someday too. This reminds me of that movie where he's a movie character and Sylvester Stallone is the president.

Ah-nold can't be President as the Constitution stands now. There would first need to be an Amendment allowing for naturalized American citizens to be elected President. Currently, only naturally born Americans can be.

And Ren, I think you're actually thinking of Demolition Man, starring Sly Stallone, where Ah-nold is the President thanks to the 61st Amendment.

Yeah. I had forgotten about those. Thanks MM

Don't worry; we'd never elect Flynt to be our governor. Moving him to the governor's office would take him away from the publishing desk. Ergo, no more magazine.

We'd never allow that to happen.

Well, in all honesty, he is an intelligent man. He did teach himself English with no help and all that... I'm just not sure if he would be a good governor. Intelligence does not make you a good politician. However, he does have some charisma, so we shall see. It seems like California is screwed no matter what, though. 8D

If Jesse Ventura was able to be a decent governor, then Arnold shouldn't have too many problems.
To accept a faith just because it is customary, means to be dishonest, to be cowardly, to be lazy. And do dishonesty, cowardice, and laziness then appear as the presupposition of morality?

You know, I wonder how Native Californians, like Sinistral, feel about this...

I have noticed they have kept quiet about it all.

I`m not a native californian and that fucking sucks that he`s running. However, the VERY kickass Arianna Huffington is running. Man, I will PAY to see her destroy someone on a live political debate.

If people think Arnold will just be able to magically manufacture the money that Davis didn't have, they've got another think coming. The only thing he can do is the exact same thing Davis has been doing.
While this America settles in the mould of its vulgarity, heavily thickening
    to empire,
And protest, only a bubble in the molten mass, pops and sighs out, and the
    mass hardens,
I sadly smiling remember that the flower fades to make fruit, the fruit rots
    to make earth.
    Out of the mother; and through the spring exultances, ripeness and decadence;
    and home to the mother.

You making haste, haste on decay: not blameworthy; life is good, be it
    stubbornly long or suddenly
A mortal splendor: meteors are not needed less than mountains:
    shine, perishing republic.
But for my children, I would have them keep their distance from the
    thickening center; corruption
Never has been compulsory, when the cities lie at the monster's feet there
    are left the mountains.

And boys, be in nothing so moderate as in love of man, a clever servant,
    insufferable master.
There is the trap that catches noblest spirits, that caught -- they say --
God, when he walked on earth.

I like Larry Flynt's idea of allowing state taxed slot machines. I think he said that he would tax the slot machines something like 30%. California being the liberal place that it is, that idea would probably float over with the people pretty well.

    Heh.

Huffington would DESTROY her in open debate. Wouldn't even be a fair contest, really. It'd be like a bullfight, or a footrace between an olympic sprinter and somebody without legs. Or, fittingly enough, a debate between a college graduate and a person with no brain.

She [Huffington] will probably end up getting my vote in this thing.

Sorc: Not necessarily. The pro Indian gaming lobby has been becoming pretty potent recently, and would probably have the muscle to frame such an egregious tax as being discriminatory or unfairly targeted at their business. While we Californians in general have little qualms about "sticking it to the man" when it comes to taxes on big business or lawsuits against big business, with big tobacco being a widely popular whipping boy, [well, at least we are around here, but remember I'm in spitting distance of SFO and Berzerkley, so my perspective and surveys are perhaps a bit skewed], the Indian Gaming Casinos would likely be seen as "the little guy" and a "minority" and I doubt a tax as high as 30% would make it onto the books. Some tax would probably make it, but not nearly that high.

Bill Maher said something like this:

the economic boost died with the dot com crash at Gray Davis`request. We were then involved in 2 wars, playing right into the hands of Gray Davis. And let`s not forget that the state was defrauded for millions by Dick Cheney`s friends in the energy industry and Enron, and who`s to blame? Gray Davis. The solution? A Viennese weight lifter.

I think i'm going to do what my dad suggested, vote republican, let them take all the blame then get their asses kicked in 04. There isn't really anything they can do that Davis hasn't. If I was going to vote dem, I would probably go Hffington.

Meh, I personally think it's a good idea - and it would rake in the cash pretty well if it passed. Slot Machines are pretty popular as far as casino-esque type things go.

    A few other notes.

Actors getting into politics are not anything new.

    Jesse Ventura; Ronald Reagan.

Is my point received? That's what I thought.

The thing with Reagan was that he had been going around for YEARS before he ran for governor, giving political speeches on issues, supporting campaigns, etc. Only experience I've heard of that Ah-nold has is that referendum he got on the last ballot in California.

As for Ventura, I have no idea what experience he had. Well, I guess he could kick any other governor's asses in the ring. That's always a plus.
